A 5.5 magnitude earthquake killed 8 persons in Xinjiang, China, May 11. Xingjiang is in the far west of China and is on the "SilK Road" to Islamabad, Pakistan. The incident was reported by the China Earthquake Administration (CEA) the official China state agency for earthquake administration. It was verified by the United Staes Geological Society and can be reviewed on the excellent site earthquaketrack.com.
Earthquakes are common in China. The last major quake was in 2008 in Sichuan when approximately 70,000 persons died.
