Not to be outdone by the Republic of Ireland, Scotland experienced an earthquake today (August 4, 2017). There was a minor earthquake (1.5M) in the Republic August 2 in County Donegal.
The earthquake today in the Scottish Highlands was much larger (3.8M) and was felt throughout the west of Scotland. Significant earthquakes are unusual in Scotland but very small tremors occur quite frequently.
A mapping program recently determined that there has been 1,000 small earthquakes in Scotland over the last 50 years.
